Next week is "Curiosity" "I explore the world around me with an open mind and ask questions often. " Reset your dismissal plans for 2024 Time for some New Year cleaning! Please reset your dismissal plans using the Alma Start Dismissal Plan Update form. Everyone needs to log in and make new dismissal selections for the new year. Prior selections are no longer active and everyone will default to "car rider" if you do not make new selections. We've found that a regular "clean up" like this is the only way to get rid of obsolete data. NEW - there is now only one dismissal form in Alma. You'll use the same one to set your regular plan or to make one-day deviations. More directions here. Also, remember to use Alma Forms to submit any absence reports before 9am on the day of the absence. Morning tardies Telra's academic day starts at 8:15am sharp, and students need to be in their classroom at 8:15 to avoid being marked tardy. Car-rider families - we know the morning routine at home can be tough, but be sure to arrive well-in time to make sure your child starts the Telra day on the right foot. We want to teach students that punctuality matters. The morning car line opens at 7:50am. Aim for the Green zone! Cars arriving 7:50 - 8:05 am - Green zone - Your child will have plenty of time to visit their locker/cubby and get to class. Maybe even chat with their friends and relax a bit before school begins. Cars arriving 8:05 - 8:10 am - Yellow zone - Your child will likely be on time, but you haven't left much cushion in case there is traffic on the road or in our drop off area. Cars arriving 8:10 - 8:15 am - Red zone - There is a good chance your child will be tardy. Best case scenario, they'll be rushing to get to class. Cars arriving after 8:15 am - Tardy - You will need to park and sign your child in. Have a great weekend!

We hope everyone is enjoying a fun-filled year-end break with friends, family, and/or solitude as you prefer. School dress code We noticed some increasing issues with student dress code adherence toward the end of 2023. So here is your regular reminder that Telra is a uniform school, and we will be stepping up enforcement in the new year. The school uniform is an important part of the Telra experience and one of the things that makes us a little different than other school options. This is a joint responsibility between school staff, parents, and students to become educated about the dress code and work to stay within the guidelines. Parents, if it's been a while since you learned about the dress code, this is a good time to read the details and discuss it with your child. Or, if you'd prefer an audio explanation (and don't mind a little silliness), have a listen here. Queue it up on a car ride with your kids! Don't delay! You might find you need to buy a few new clothing items before coming back to school next week. If so, better to know soon and take advantage of some year-end sales rather than be called in during the middle of a school day to bring new clothes for your child. Teams is still the primary place to go for full details on classwork, assignments, and links to resources. However, we have begun syncing this information to Alma to make it even easier to keep up with your child's progress at school. Grades and assignments will be posted on Teams first and there could be a lag of a few days before you see them in Alma. If Alma falls way behind, please send your teacher a gentle request to sync their gradebook and publish their Alma grades. Next year's calendar Telra's 2024-2025 academic calendar is now available. Guidelines for giving Telra is blessed to have many involved and generous families. And, especially at this time of year, parents are eager to express this gratitude through volunteering, kind words, and sometimes direct giving. Returning Telra families may recall there are limits placed on this giving by the NC Educator Code of Ethics and by IRS regulations. In order to protect staff, enhance the professionalism of their school culture, and preserve their 501c(3) tax status, private and charter schools are increasingly putting policies in place to guide teachers and parents in the area of gifting. Telra received legal advice on this issue 2 years back and joined area schools such as Charlotte Latin in putting a policy in place which is summarized on the attached slide. We appreciate your generosity and awareness of these Guidelines for Giving

As part of the festive spirit, our highly anticipated Winter Book Fair is just around the corner, read on for more information. Trimester One report cards will be issued next week! In this issue of the Telegram - Morning arrivals reminders - Matthews HELP Center holiday assistance program - Spiritwear orders have arrived (and how to get your own!) - Winter Book Fair information (volunteer sign-ups coming Monday) - Upcoming events Morning Arrivals As we strive to create a smooth and timely start to each school day, we'd like to remind you of our school arrival procedures. The carline opens at 7:50 am and closes promptly at 8:15 am providing ample time for a convenient drop-off. Lately we have noticed a trend of increased traffic towards the end of the carline window, impacting the start of homeroom time. To maximize learning opportunities and allow students to settle in, we kindly request your cooperation in arriving earlier within the carline window. As per our Family Handbook, students arriving after 8:15 am must be walked to the front office to check in. A parent/guardian signature is required for late arrivals. Your support in adhering to these arrival times is greatly appreciated, as it contributes to a positive and efficient start to each school day. Thank you for helping us create an environment where students can thrive and succeed. Need assistance this Holiday Season? The Matthews HELP Center is inviting families to apply for its annual holiday assistance program! If you are a family that needs assistance to make this holiday season special for your family, please contact the center for more information. Families can email hope@matthewshelpcenter.org or gain more information from the Matthews HELP Center website (www.matthewshelpcenter.org) Families who are interested must apply by 12/6. Spiritwear orders Spiritwear orders for this month have arrived and are available for pick-up at front office! If you ordered, please send your student to front office to collect the order, or come by the front office anytime during the school day to collect your order. Want your own spiritwear?
