Telra Telegram - January 5, 2024

Cheers to Friday! We've successfully navigated through the first week post-winter break. Take a moment to congratulate your child for showing up and putting in their best effort. The first week back can be challenging, but they have triumphed!

Spelling month!

This is spelling month at Telra! Students will be practicing and competing to determine their classroom spelling winners and culminating in a schoolwide championship at the end of January. The school winner will represent Telra in the regional competition.

More information coming soon, but in case you can't wait, families can join the Spelling Bee book club for free: https://spellingbee.com/book-club

January 9, class photos and spirit night

  1. CK Visuals will be back to take class photos. Get those haircuts and have your kids looking their best on Tuesday Jan 9. We'd love some volunteers to help with getting students lined up and ready for photos, you can sign up here

  2. Spirit Night time at the new Super Chix in Stonecrest (7828 Rea Rd, Suite F). Stop by from 4-8pm on Jan 9 and grab a delicious chicken sandwich and maybe some frozen custard. Make sure to tell them you're with Telra!

Character Strength of the week

Each week in homeroom, our students discuss the character strength of the week as part of The Character Effectâ„¢, our morning character education program that helps children understand, appreciate, and harness their unique character strengths.

Next week is "Curiosity"

"I explore the world around me with an open mind and ask questions often. "

Reset your dismissal plans for 2024

Time for some New Year cleaning! Please reset your dismissal plans using the Alma Start Dismissal Plan Update form.

  • Everyone needs to log in and make new dismissal selections for the new year. Prior selections are no longer active and everyone will default to "car rider" if you do not make new selections. We've found that a regular "clean up" like this is the only way to get rid of obsolete data.

  • NEW - there is now only one dismissal form in Alma. You'll use the same one to set your regular plan or to make one-day deviations. More directions here.

Also, remember to use Alma Forms to submit any absence reports before 9am on the day of the absence.

Morning tardies

Telra's academic day starts at 8:15am sharp, and students need to be in their classroom at 8:15 to avoid being marked tardy.

Car-rider families - we know the morning routine at home can be tough, but be sure to arrive well-in time to make sure your child starts the Telra day on the right foot. We want to teach students that punctuality matters.

The morning car line opens at 7:50am. Aim for the Green zone!

  • Cars arriving 7:50 - 8:05 am - Green zone - Your child will have plenty of time to visit their locker/cubby and get to class. Maybe even chat with their friends and relax a bit before school begins.

  • Cars arriving 8:05 - 8:10 am - Yellow zone - Your child will likely be on time, but you haven't left much cushion in case there is traffic on the road or in our drop off area.

  • Cars arriving 8:10 - 8:15 am - Red zone - There is a good chance your child will be tardy. Best case scenario, they'll be rushing to get to class.

  • Cars arriving after 8:15 am - Tardy - You will need to park and sign your child in.

Have a great weekend!
