Our Location & Future Growth
Telra Institute is excited to open its doors in Fall 2021 on the campus of Matthews United Methodist Church. Our school building, formerly the church preschool, is already configured for young children, and we will be upgrading and outfitting the classrooms in preparation for our opening. In addition to classrooms, we are lucky to have access to outside space, playgrounds, a gym, and plentiful parking.
for Fall 2021
801 S Trade St, Matthews, NC 28105
In Fall 2022, we will move to our permanent home in a custom-designed building on a separate site in South Charlotte in the Providence / 485 area. We look forward to sharing more details about this soon.
We are opening with grades K-3 and plan to grow one grade each year to offer a full elementary school experience.
We also look forward to speaking with parents to understand if there is interest in expanding the Telra model to middle school or high school.
Telra wants to ensure transportation is not a barrier to attendance. Parents will have multiple transportation options:
Individual parent drop-off and pick-up
Carpool with other families – Telra will help coordinate carpool groupings and assist families in locating an active carpool
School bus – Telra plans to offer bus transportation in coordination with an outside provider. The exact bus routes, timing, and fees will be determined with input from a parent survey after enrollment in April/May. We will likely use a shuttle stop system similar to other charter schools and magnet schools. While the exact cost will depend on the routes and ridership, a helpful planning figure is ~$200/month, and families can qualify for free or subsidized bus fees. Please contact us if you have any questions.
Telra will offer a daily nutritious hot lunch service as part of the National School Lunch Program. Families can qualify for free or subsidized meals. Children are of course welcome to bring lunch from home.
Please contact us if you have any questions.
Telra Institute recognizes the benefit that dress code and uniform standards have in creating a distraction-free environment for learning and in contributing to school identity and spirit. Our school uniform policy is in development.
Hours & Calendar
Telra's school day starts at 8:15 a.m. and ends at 3:30 p.m. The first day of school for 2021-22 is August 23, 2021.

Please reach out to them, mention Principal Armour's name, and they will take you through their processes and procedures. This provision is between families and the provider. Principal Armour is here to liaise and support, but Telra is not directly involved in organizing this service.
We are actively working on securing other providers towards the North/Central areas also, so more info to follow.
Cleaning Protocols & COVID-19
Telra Institute is planning for in-person instruction in Fall 2021 to the extent permitted by law and while adhering to guidance provided by State and local authorities regarding COVID-safe opening conditions
For daily COVID disinfection, Telra will use an outside service provider that works with many other area schools and businesses and follows the latest health department guidance on cleaning protocols.
