We hope you enjoyed the long weekend and are excited about returning to school tomorrow. We have planned some new events and have a new policy to share, so here is our latest news for you!
Computer Case Policy - starts Wednesday, February 19th!
Parties & social events on the horizon - Culture Fair and Arts & Crafts Festival dates added!
A Note from the Principals
We hope you had a great week last week and that you stayed warm and dry with the rainy weather. It looks to be another chilly one this week, so it seems the groundhog was right when he said there would be six more weeks of winter.
Thank you so much to Family Council for a wonderful Valentine’ event on February 13th! We hope you all enjoyed the event. This week, Family Council is hosting a Trivia Night on Friday from 6:00-8:00 PM, and we hope to see many of you there!
This week, we want to share some helpful tips and tricks for navigating Microsoft Teams. Let us be the first ones to say that Teams definitely has a learning curve. Once you get some practice using the platform, it is a great tool to keep up with your child’s education. This week, we want to highlight the Classwork section in Teams. This section is where we encourage all parents to go for updates about what is being covered in class. In Classwork, you can find:
The unit currently being covered.
An outline of the upcoming week.
Quiz and assessment dates.
Slideshows used in class.
These tools all work together to allow you as parents to have visibility into what your child is learning. If you are looking for ways to help your child at home, going over the day’s slideshows with your child are a great way to reinforce concepts and allow your child to share what they learned, which serves as extra practice for them.
If you ever find that something is missing from Teams or you have questions about the content, we encourage you to reach out to your child’s teacher first. We do want to remind you that the materials provided on Teams, including the slideshows, serve as study guides, so additional study guides are not provided. If your child uses the materials on Teams, this will be able to guide them in their studies and will prepare them well for any upcoming quizzes and assessments.

Helping Hands - We Need Your Help!
Parents, we need your help! Please sign up to volunteer for "Helping Hands" - these helpers assist Telra staff by completing tasks left for them in the "Helping Hands" box in the teacher workroom. These tasks may include copying papers, cutting out items, organizing the Lost and Found area, or re-shelving books in the neighborhood libraries - these are just a few examples of how you can help! The Front Desk staff will assist you on where to go and what needs to be done. Please review the available slots in the link below and click on the button to sign up. Thank you for supporting our awesome staff!

Computer Case Requirements
We have experienced a significant rise in damage due to misuse or carelessness on our school-issued laptops. To help prevent this from happening, and to minimize the impact in the classroom, we are instituting a new policy. Beginning Wednesday, February 19, all students must use a protective case for their school-issued laptops. These cases should be large enough to carry a 14" laptop and can be purchased at most of the big box stores in our area. If a student is seen carrying their laptop without a case, their device will be confiscated and held in the front office. To retrieve the laptop, students must show their case to either their teacher (if they still have the laptop) or the front office staff.
As outlined in our Electronic Devices and Technology Use Policy, students are responsible for handling school-issued technology in a responsible and secure manner. Using a protective case is essential to prevent damage and maintain the longevity of devices.
Please remind your child to bring and use their laptop case daily. Thank you for your support in keeping our school technology safe!
Managing Anxiety with Children and Youth
Our neighbor, St. Francis United Methodist Church, has invited the Telra Community to attend a seminar on Managing Anxiety with Children and Youth on Tuesday, February 25, at 6:30pm.
Jonathan Haidt’s 2024 book The Anxious Generation has captured the attention of educators, youth leaders, and parents alike. Join Jay Cobb, MA, LMFT, LCMHC, along with a team of expert therapists specializing in pediatric and adolescent mental health, as they provide valuable insights and practical strategies for addressing anxiety and depression in children and teens.
The event will be held in the sanctuary at the church, next door to Telra, at 4200 McKee Rd. Please register to attend.
