Microsoft 365 and Teams

MS background.png

Telra students all have subscriptions to Microsoft 365. This allows them use of applications like Outlook, Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and more for completing their school work, communicating with teachers, and to use for Telra extracurricular activities.

 â€‹

Microsoft Teams is part of this suite of applications, which is the platform Telra teachers use to document classroom assignments, provide links to reading material and other references, and to record grades. Parents and guardians can follow along with their child's progress by using the student credentials to log into their Teams accounts

Student credentials

Telra students log into Microsoft 365 applications using a single sign-on (SSO) process - a common username / password for all the Microsoft applications.

Student credentials

  • Students usernames are in the form firstname.lastname.s@telra.org

  • Student passwords are being reset to follow the format: XXXX-AA-MM-DD (don't forget the dashes)

    • XXXX = â€‹â€‹Last 4 digits of student ID

    • AA = student initials (capital letters)

    • MM = 2-digit birth month

    • DD = 2-digit birth date

  • Student usernames and ID numbers are loaded into Alma. In Alma click the circle with your initials and select "my info." Please let us know if you spot any errors. (If you are a new student and don't see an ID number, you can use 0000 as the 4 digits until your ID is assigned.)

Teams

Students will use MS Teams frequently, and this is available as a free desktop application (in addition to being part of the browser-based Microsoft 365 suite).

Telra teachers use Teams to communicate upcoming classwork, homework, and provide unit overviews for students and families. This allows you to access the information you need, when you need it, rather than digging through your email inbox. Teams is the platform Telra uses to record student assignments & grades and to provide transparency into course materials and course progress.

Teams has many features and it can be confusing to navigate if you’re new to it. To make things a little easier for students and families, all teachers will use the “Classwork” module in Teams as the central place to organize assignments and resources. You and your child can also see their calendar in Teams to see when there are upcoming tests or quizzes.

It is important that you know how to log in and access materials on Teams. If your child is absent, Teams is the first place you can go to check for the classwork and homework they might have missed. See the primer video below if you’d like a walkthrough.

Graded classes at Telra (math, ELA, science, and social studies) should have their classwork/assignments posted for the upcoming (M-F) week by each Wednesday evening. That gives you visibility into the expectations for the week ahead so that you can (a) plan for homework, projects, and studying and balance that with other extracurriculars, (b) look ahead at content that will be covered and support your child as needed.
