Telra Telegram - February 7, 2025

Tonight is skate night at Kate's Skate. You can still get tickets online. Read on for more activities this weekend and in coming weeks!

A Note from the Principals

We want to start by saying how grateful we are to serve your children and work alongside such engaged and supportive families. We know that you care deeply about your children’s academic progress and want to help them reach their full potential. At Telra, we believe that success comes from paying close attention to the details and continuously refining our approach. That’s why we do many things differently from regular public schools, including how we group students, assess progress, adjust placements throughout the year, and communicate with families.

As you know, instead of Parent-Teacher Conference (PTC) days, we offer weekly teacher office hours, which allow for more individualized and meaningful conversations. These meetings are focused on your child’s specific needs, without the time constraints of a conference night or the need to rush between classrooms—especially for families with multiple children. This approach gives you the opportunity to connect with teachers when you need to, rather than waiting for a scheduled conference day. We believe this ongoing, personalized communication better supports your child’s growth and success.

Many schools use teacher workdays for PTCs, but at Telra, these days are dedicated to professional development that helps our teachers grow and refine their practices. In turn, this continuous learning benefits your children, helping them make even greater progress than they might in a traditional school setting. The only thing we ask of you is this—please don’t wait to reach out to our teachers if you have any concerns about your child’s academic progress. Our teachers are always ready to work with you and support your child’s success.

We’ll wrap this up with a big "Let there be sun!"—because, honestly, we are not fans of the cold weather!

Core Virtue of the Month

This month, our Core Virtue is Honesty. As we work to instill this virtue in our students at school through modeling honesty and encouraging it in all conversations, we encourage families to discuss the value of honesty at home. Below, you can find some book recommendations that help reinforce the virtue of honesty.

  • The Honest-to-Goodness Truth by Patricia C. McKissack

  • Snatchabook by Helen Docherty

  • Escape Goat by Anne Patchett

  • The Boy Who Cried Wolf by Jenny Giles

  • Pinocchio by Carlo Collodi

Flag Football

Telra is starting an intramural Flag Football program. This is an exciting opportunity for students to exercise teamwork, learn about the game in a fun environment, and the experience of athletic competition. Our goal is for it to be a fun, engaging learning experience.

Our inaugural season will consist of 4 teams. We will be reaching out to those parents who signed their students up earlier this year (if you missed that signup, email Mr. Wallace directly). The season will tentatively begin on February 18th with a coaches meeting and end on April 10th before Spring Break. Games and Practice will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

We are currently looking for volunteers, coaches, and officials. If you are interested in helping out or filling one of those vital roles to make the inaugural season a success! Please contact Mr. Wallace at: douglas.wallace@telra.org

Academic Lab Update

Academic Lab is our study hall to allow students to make up tests and quizzes either before or after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays. If a student finishes the exam or test early, they will need to stay for the duration of the time to minimize disruption to others and to allow us to staff accordingly. Please do not ask for exceptions.

Academic Lab is held: Tuesdays 7:15-8:15am and 3:45-4:45pm

Thursdays 7:15-8:15am and 3:45-4:45pm
