Hello Parents of Telra high schoolers,
If you are joining Telra's high school next year, there are some active steps we need you to take in order to register your child into the Central Piedmont Community College system and have them reserve courses for you in the upcoming school year. As you know, dual enrollment will be an important part of the high school experience at Telra.
This process is critical for every student who does not already have a CPCC account, meaning this applies to:
Current Telra 8th graders rising into 9th with us next year
Students joining Telra for the first time into 9th grade or higher in the fall
Even if your child will not be participating in dual enrollment courses right away this fall, we ask that you start this registration process now so that we can begin the qualification process for your child and have them ready to take college courses as soon as they are able.
Step 0: Log into your CFNC account (www.cfnc.org) - time required 5 mins
We have gone ahead and created CFNC accounts for all of our rising 9th grade students. You'll need the following credentials to log in. (Note, if you already created a CFNC account on your own, please disregard that and use this one.)
Username: firstname_lastname (all lowercase)
If that doesn't work try firstnamelastname (without the underscore separating the two) or email us for help.
Password: Same as your Telra email password
New to Telra? Reach out to us to learn the password format.
If prompted for an email address, use your Telra student email (first.last.s@telra.org)
Don't have a Telra email yet? Use a personal email, but make a note to change your CFNC account to your Telra email later
Once you're logged in, you can check your profile information and confirm that your address, emergency contact, and other information is correct.
For Steps 1-4 below, you'll find more complete instructions on the Central Piedmont dual enrollment website.
Step 1: From your CFNC account, complete your "Career and College Promise" application to get your CPCC Student ID number - time required 10 mins (but ~2 days of waiting after)
Note, you are applying for a Central Piedmont Student ID number. This is not the same your Telra student ID
Once you complete this application, you should receive your Central Piedmont ID number in your Telra email account (or whichever email you specified) within a few days.
Fill out this form to let us know your ID number once you have it.
Step 2: Create your Central Piedmont Student Email Login - time required 5 mins
Once you have your Central Piedmont ID Number, you can go to the CPCC Activator if you need to set up your CPCC email account
Please use your Telra email as a recovery email when you set up your Central Piedmont login. That way we can help you in the event you lose your password.
If you don't have a Telra email yet, go ahead and use a personal email. But make a note to change it later.
Optional: If you want to take a RISE placement test, you can do that once you have your Central Piedmont Student email.
Step 3: Sign up for Multi-Factor Authentication with Central Piedmont - time required 5 mins
For now, you can use any personal parent or student device for MFA
We will also configure your Telra device for MFA in the fall
Step 4: Log into Brightspace and complete the CCP Checkpoint Orientation - time required 1 hour
Brightspace is the Learning Management System (LMS) used by Central Piedmont. It's where the college posts course materials (similar to Teams)
The "Career and College Promise Checkpoint Orientation" is a series of videos that they ask students to watch as a introduction to dual enrollment.
There is a quiz at the end
That's all we need for now. Telra will pick up with Step 5 to complete your child's registration.
