Our first half-semester winds to a close with Fall Break next week. The start of a new school year (especially when it involves taking college courses), can be hectic and requires an adjustment to new expectations and rhythms. We are proud of how our Telra students have grown in just 8 short weeks. They have definitely earned a time for rest: there are no Telra classes and no CPCC classes next week from October 13-17.
Course reports
Telra High School students participating in dual-enrollment courses need to submit a course report at the end of each class. The course reports allow you to tell us your course grades (so that you can earn credit on your high school transcript) and provide feedback on the instructor and the course format. This helps us plan better offerings for you and your classmates in the future.
Since many of you are completing 8-week courses, please use this form to submit your course reports during the break. (Note that CPCC does eventually send us your course grades as confirmation, but this often happens on a long delay.)
Note: you need to be logged into your telra.org account to complete the form.
2nd 8-week session
After fall break, CPCC's 2nd fall 8-week session begins. Many of our students took some accelerated 8-week dual enrollment courses at the start of the year such as MAT 171, MAT 172, ACA 122, or ENG 111. As these courses are now completing, some of them have natural continuations:
Most students who took ENG 111 in the 1st 8 weeks will take ENG 112 in the 2nd 8 weeks
Most students who took MAT 171 in the 1st 8 weeks will take Telra Math 9 (AoPS Intermediate Algebra) for the remainder of the year
Most students who took MAT 172 in the 1st 8 weeks will take Telra Math 10 (AoPS PreCalculus) for the remainder of the year
Other than these continuations, we are not recommending any other course replacements for the 2nd half of the fall semester. Our hope is that students will have some more time in the remainder of this fall to explore some extracurriculars, dive deeper into their remaining classes, and enjoy a little more free time.
However, if a student is certain that they want to take another CPCC course in the 2nd 8 weeks, then they need to follow this process:
Check whether an additional course would push them to a credit overload (anything greater than 21 credits in a semester). If so, they must
Email the department head for the overload course they are requesting for permission to take the extra course. FYI, the department head for mathematics is rinav.mehta@cpcc.edu
Check whether your parents will allow you to take this overload. If your parents agree, they need to email Principal Ozer to grant their permission: john.ozer@telra.org
Go onto MyCollege and register for the additional course
Dual-enrollment qualification
Qualifying for the College Transfer dual-enrollment pathway at CPCC can be accomplished in two ways:
Achieving minimum scores on the PreACT across one or more test administrations (meaning, you can combine a qualifying English score in one sitting with a qualifying math score from another sitting).
English 18
Reading 22
Math 22
Achieving minimum scores on the RISE test
70 or higher on English/Reading Tier 1 and 2
70 or higher on Math Tier 1, 2, and 3
Telra administers the PreACT 2-3 times per year to give students chances to qualify, and you can try it as many times as you would like. CPCC offers regular opportunities to take the RISE test, however, students only have 2 attempts to achieve qualifying scores on the test. (Both exams are offered at no cost to Telra students.)
PreACT
Telra High School students will take the PreACT on October 27-29. The PreACT is a required assessment for North Carolina 10th graders, and Telra administers it to 8th and 9th graders as preparation for the ACT and for dual-enrollment qualification.
The PreACT will have tested sections on Reading, English Language, Math, and Science. Each of these topics will be tested in individual sections. For more specifics on timings, please visit www.act.org (Students hoping to enroll in the College Transfer Pathway need to achieve the following scores on the PreACT: English 18, Reading 22, and Math 22.)
During PreACT testing days, Telra HS classes will not be held. However CPCC courses will go on as scheduled. Luckily, the PreACT is built with some modularity so that students can fit it into their schedules around other courses.
It is important that all students plan ahead. The PreACT takes about 3 hours to complete, so that's time students will not have that week to complete other assignments. Please plan out your week with this knowledge in mind.
Final week of the fall semester
The final week of our fall semester is a short week: Monday, December 15 - Thursday, December 18. CPCC classes will have finished by December 12, so our plans include some testing, club activities, and field trips:

2nd chance PreACT administration (another chance to qualify for the college transfer dual enrollment track)
Club activities: DECA projects & role plays, math team practice, new club brainstorming, planning for spring semester, etc.
Independent study, recess, and free time
Tuesday, December 16
CLEP French 1 and American Government Exams (chance for students who are taking these courses in the fall to earn college credit)
Club activities: DECA projects & role plays, math team practice, new club brainstorming, planning for spring semester, etc.
Independent study, recess, and free time

9th and 10th graders field trip to UNC Chapel Hill (note: this will be a longer day of around 7am - 7pm)
Driver training in January
Calling young drivers-to-be! Telra is offering a Driver's Education session in January, during the week before CPCC courses start.
North Carolina students who are at least 14.5 years of age can enroll in a 30-hour Driver Education class. This in-classroom training is the first step towards qualifying for a learner's permit or driver's license.
Telra Institute will be offering this course at no cost for our students from January 5 - 9, 2026, but you must sign up on this form to reserve your slot.
Note that there are no CPCC classes during this week. We will plan other activities for students who are not participating in this course.
After a student completes this Driver Education class, they can sign up for a 6 hour behind-the-wheel training. Only after completing both trainings may they apply for a learner's permit.
Ready? Speak to your parents first, and then sign up here. (You need to sign into Microsoft with your telra.org credentials)
High School construction
If you haven't been driving by our campus lately, you're missing all the construction progress! Find more photos here. The contractor is telling us to expect occupancy in the 1st half of January, so we should be in our own building for nearly all of the spring semester.

Code of Conduct reminders
A few reminders of our Code of Conduct expectations for Telra students
While in class, homebase or the library, cell phones must remain put away.
Maintain respectful behavior in the library (stay quiet, clean up after yourself). You represent Telra.
Follow the Telra dress code. Especially as the weather gets colder, keep in mind that hoodies are not permitted inside, and sweatshirts must be of the permitted solid colors.

Spring Semester
We are working with the CPCC team on planning out courses for the spring semester. In the next couple of weeks, you'll start to see some planned course assignments pop up in Alma or MyCollege. We are working hard to enable all students to make progress on their pathways and high school requirements.
